I’m in a season of maternity sessions with my photography, and I absolutely love it. When Nick reached out to me to set up this session for him and Hailey, I was so excited and honored. Getting to photograph this moment in their lives is such a privilege. I’ve gone through various seasons with my photography, and this current maternity wave feels like a huge vote of confidence.
I photographed Hailey’s maternity session at the Tobin Park Trailhead in San Antonio, Texas. It’s a small, unassuming park right off the 410 highway, and I stumbled across it a couple of years ago. Since then, it’s been a super reliable spot for golden hour portraits. The sun beams beautifully through the trees, creating just the right amount of glow and warmth, which was perfect for this session.

I distinctly remember getting excited about the photos I was seeing straight from the back of my camera. The lighting, the colors, the emotion — everything was falling into place naturally. At one point my wife even had to tell me to slow down because I was moving through spots too quickly. That’s how I know I’m in the zone. When I feel like I’ve nailed the shot, I prefer to move on rather than linger. I find that it keeps the session fresh and avoids fatigue, especially for expecting parents.

From start to finish, this entire session took about an hour. The elements worked in our favor, the park was peaceful, and Nick and Hailey required very little direction. They were so in sync with one another and genuinely excited for this moment. I left the session feeling completely full and creatively satisfied.

And I’m especially grateful we got these done when we did. Their baby arrived just two days after the shoot. Our original date would have been too late. It’s funny how things work out!

About the Gear
I photographed this entire maternity session using my Fujifilm X-T30 paired with the Viltrox 25mm F1.7 Air. This combo is lightweight and easy to carry, which makes it perfect for fast-moving portrait sessions. The sharpness of the Viltrox lens is genuinely impressive, especially at this price point. And let’s talk about color. I shot this session using Fujifilm’s Classic Chrome film simulation, and the tones were so beautiful straight out of camera. No heavy editing required, just clean, warm tones that complement golden hour so well!
